A total of nine race meetings are scheduled across Britain and Ireland on Saturday, including at Ascot, Haydock and Lingfield.
There are no fewer than nine race meetings scheduled to take place across Britain and Ireland on Saturday. We have Listed action on offer over Flat and Jumps in Ireland, as well as some Classic trials on both sides of the Irish Sea.
The £100,000 Victoria Cup is Ascot’s big race and a maximum field of 29 has been declared for what should be a thoroughly competitive event.
Everyone loves a Lucky15, so with that in mind, our expert has selected four strong fancies to follow across the afternoon to consider combining into a multiple.
Amongst them is a very promising Charlie Appleby three-year-old in the Derby trial at Lingfield, a runner we may not have seen the best of yet.
Below are our four horse racing betting tips for the day’s action.
Saturday Lucky 15 racing tips
- 13:15 Haydock – Dance And Glance @ 7/1
- 13:28 Lingfield – Bloom @ 9/2
- 13:58 Lingfield – Maho Bay @ 13/8
- 14:20 Ascot – Shiplake @ 15/2
13:15 Haydock – Dance And Glance @ 7/1
This is a valuable race for the time of year and as a result, a competitive field has been assembled.
Anthony Honeyball’s runner DANCE AND GLANCE gets the nod, as the six-year-old should be capable of finding more improvement, and he was a winner over course and distance when last seen.
That aforementioned success came off a 6lb lower mark last month and he probably won with more in hand than the official margin suggests. The handicapper has responded but the rise could potentially prove to be generous and it would be no surprise if he manages to follow up.
13:28 Lingfield – Bloom @ 9/2
Aidan O’Brien managed to win both the Chester Vase and the Cheshire Oaks earlier this week and he sends a couple of fillies over for this race.
BLOOM is rated 4lb higher than her stablemate and there should be loads more to come from this daughter of Wootton Bassett, who remains lightly raced.
Her dam is related to Irish 2000 Guineas winner Roderic O’Connor and she improved for the step up in trip when winning over a mile at Cork in September.
She looked badly in need of the run when third at Navan on seasonal debut and O’Brien’s three-year-old should be much sharper this time around.
13:58 Lingfield – Maho Bay @ 13/8
Charlie Appleby won this race with Military Order back in 2023 and he looks well set to take the spoils again this year. The twice-raced MAHO BAY has shown a significant amount of potential in his short career so far, making his debut in a 1m3f maiden at Kempton back in December.
An impressive winner on that occasion, he was always prominent and kicked well clear to score by six lengths under Billy Loughnane. Stable jockey William Buick took over for his second start at Newmarket last month and he successfully made all the running. He’s ready for the step up in grade.
14:20 Ascot – Shiplake @ 15/2
Kevin Philippart De Foy has landed three winners in the last week and his runner, SHIPLAKE, has a solid chance of taking the valuable first-place prize home in the Victoria Cup. This four-year-old has done well since going up to 7f and remains fairly lightly raced in handicap company.
He bolted up in Class 5 at Southwell in November and was even more impressive over the same course and distance two months later. This is obviously tougher and he needs to prove his effectiveness on turf, but it’s likely that he remains ahead of the handicapper.
